 What is Reflexology?

Reflexology uses gentle pressure or massage on specific points known as reflexes, on the feet, face and hands that are believed to correspond to various parts of the body. When stress or illness occurs in the body, these reflex points feel sensitive and out of balance. Stimulating the reflexes can help to support the body’s own ability to heal and enables a person to feel relaxed, more positive and see improvement in their symptom pattern.

Reflexology dates back centuries with the earliest reference believed to be around 2500BC recorded as a pictograph along with many other depictions of medical procedures within the “physicians tomb” in the Egyptian pyramids. More recently reflexology can be linked to the research of English neurologist Sir Henry Head in the early 19th century as well as British neurophysiologist Sir Charles Sherrington who published research on the effects of the nervous system on the brain and spinal cord, and how pressure on the reflexes can affect different organs and parts of the body.

Reflexology is an holistic treatment that accounts for the patient’s lifestyle and medical history to provide a personalised treatment.
