Deep Tissue & Sports Massage


As its name suggests, deep tissue massage concentrates on the body’s deeper layers of muscle. Slow strokes and deep finger pressure across the grain of the muscles help to relieve chronic tension in the body, break down scar tissue and increase blood flow.

In many cases, a pain you feel in a joint actually originates in a muscle overlaying it; deep tissue massage works down to these inner levels to alleviate the discomfort and free up the joint.

Deep tissue massage isn’t all candles, soft music and scented oils: it’s a focused treatment designed to relieve specific symptoms and conditions. But that doesn’t mean you won’t also feel pleasantly relaxed afterwards!

Sports massage is similar to deep tissue massage but is geared as it might sound, to the muscle groups commonly associated with sport, for example running, where calf and hamstring tightness builds up and can be released to avoid injury and retain peak health in the muscle tissues.

Down the ages, cultures around the world have used massage to ease muscular pain, boost energy levels, relieve specific symptoms or simply relax and experience a deep sense of well-being. The ‘Father of Medicine’ himself, Hippocrates, declared that: “The physician must be experienced in many things, but assuredly in rubbing”.

Two thousand years on, massage has lost none of its allure or its potency. It has, however, evolved with our ever-greater knowledge and understanding of the body and mind. Today’s massage treatments combine scientific principles with timeless skills. And whether as a stand-alone treatment, or in conjunction with osteopathy and other therapies, massage still has the power to transform the way you feel.

How can it help?

Deep tissue massage can help to ‘unstick’ congested muscles, relieving tightness and soreness particularly in those muscles that overlap joints. It can also be used to:
  • Improve muscle tone
  • Remodel scar tissue
  • Remove metabolic waste
  • Improve circulation and lymphatic flow
  • Calm or stimulate nerve endings
  • It can be beneficial for those recovering from accidents and injuries and is often recommended for sports injuries, where it may help muscles regain their strength and flexibility after a period of rest or immobilisation

    Nikki started as a Personal Trainer 10 years ago and went on to qualify in 2016 from Southampton University in Remedial/Sports massage therapy at London school of Sports Therapy Massage. She has also qualified in Deep tissue therapy Nuromuscula technique (NMT), and soft tissue release(STR).


    In 2017, Nikki became registered in Kinesiology taping (Roc Doc) and Roc Blade in 2018 (IASTM) Instrument assisted soft tissue mobilisation.


    Married and a mum to 3 children, she is kept very busy and when time allows she loves running, crossfit and fitness.

    Gemma qualified in Sport Massage in 2014, she is also a qualified Personal Trainer, Ante/post natal specialist and teaches a variety of exercises classes including Pilates. She is now using her knowledge of exercise and massage combined to help treat clients through prevention, as well as cure with effective exercise prescription and massage.


    Gemma is a mother to two children and is regularly seen in the local gym, teaching Buggy Bootcamp or running.

  • Stefan Mihaila - Deep Tissue & Sports Massage Therapist

    Stefan is deep tissue and sports massage therapist with over 10 years' experience. He trained at  The University of Sport and Physical Education in the Republic of Moldova. He Moved to the UK 5 years ago and now focuses on massage and complementary therapy.


    He can offer a wide range of massage techniques aimed to help people to recover, relax and release pain.

Before your first consultation, you’ll have a FREE 15 minute consultation
In which your masseuse will review your case history and assess your individual needs in order to prepare a personalised treatment plan. Please arrive for this session about 10 minutes ahead of time, as you’ll be asked to compete some medical forms first.

The length and frequency of your treatment sessions will be agreed with your therapist. What’s important is that you do what you feel is right for YOU.
